The government shutdown is impacting the lives of many federal workers in the Tampa Bay area who are not getting paid. For many this means they are struggling to afford basic needs like food and hygiene items.
Here’s how you can help:
– Donate Items
St. Petersburg Free Clinic is the official donation site for the St. Petersburg Coast Guard. All donations can be brought directly to us and we will be making daily deliveries to the Coast Guard. They are currently in need of diapers, wipes, feminine hygiene items, cleaning supplies, toiletries, gas gift cards, and Publix gift cards.
Donations are always accepted at the back loading dock of our main building located at 863 3rd Ave. N. Monday – Friday, 8am to 12:30pm. If you have donations in a large volume please call prior to drop off so we can make sure there is ample support to unload your donation. You are also welcome to bring donations through the front door during business hours (8:30am-3:30pm).
– Make a monetary donation
To make a donation, visit stpetersburgfreeclinic.org/donate, and designate “Federal Workers” in the Other box. This money will be used to purchase food and other items for St. Petersburg Coast Guard.
You can also make a donation directly to the Chief Petty Officer Association Suncoast Chapter at https://www.paypal.me/SunCoastCPOA. The CPOA is a non-profit chapter of the Coast Guard which offers support services to Coast Guard members.
– Host a food or hygiene drive
Food drives make a huge impact. Host a food or hygiene drive with your company, friends, or family. If you would like a food barrel to be dropped off at your location, please call 727-485-8839 ext 401.
*Every Thursday evening from 4-7:30pm, federal employees are encouraged to visit our food pantry for “Federal Employee Assistance Night.” If you are unable to come during that time, you are welcome to come during normal business hours Mon-Thurs 8:30am-3pm, Friday 8:30-11am.
