Greg Best and Gregg Poole were first introduced to St. Petersburg Free Clinic by their neighbors, one of whom is a former Free Clinic Board member. Greg and Gregg, or “The Gregs”, as they are called by the name of their real estate business, were looking for a way to give back to their community. As they learned about the scope of programs, they knew this was the right fit for them.

Greg and Gregg became part of the Wednesday morning shift in the We Help Services Client Choice pantry. They often joke that they would volunteer every day, if they didn’t need to work.

“On Wednesdays, we are up at 4:30 am, and we’d be working in the pantry if they were open then.”

They arrive around 7:00 am and promptly get to work stocking shelves, replenishing supplies, and setting up the pantry for clients. They have made friends with their fellow volunteers on Wednesday mornings, and they socialize outside of their volunteer hours.

“The experience of volunteering has been a life changer; it changes your attitude,” said Greg.

Their advice: “Get to understand all aspects of the Free Clinic.”

They had no idea how much need there was, right in their own community. The passion of these two volunteers-turned-advocates is immediately clear in their passion for the work of St. Petersburg Free Clinic. They are actively promoting food drives in their neighborhood through the Nextdoor app and inviting their friends to also volunteer.

“Volunteering gives us a positive view of life; it makes you better at what you do.”

Thank you to Greg and Gregg, and the hundreds of volunteers and supporters like them, who give of their time and resources to provide the clients who walk through our doors with genuine, compassionate care. We couldn’t help so many without you!
