September is Hunger Action Month. We invite you to fight hunger in our community and strengthen relief efforts in St. Petersburg.
Many families in Pinellas County live with the fear that they won’t have enough food to feed their children. One bad month financially can mean having to choose between paying rent or buying food. Hunger Action Month brings attention to the reality of hunger – 1 in 4 children, and 1 in 7 adults in Tampa Bay are considered food insecure, meaning they do not know where there next meal is coming from.
The St. Petersburg Free Clinic provides food for over 55,000 individuals in the community through its We Help Services Client Choice Food Pantry.
This month, you can help families facing food insecurity in a variety of ways:
Donate non-perishable food items
You can drop off at items our main building (863 3rd Ave. N) Monday – Friday from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Host your own food drive
We’ll drop off collection barrels and leave you with promotional flyers and a list of most-needed items. Then, we’ll pick up the barrels and donated food once your food drive is over.
Attend our Annual Hunger Action Event
Hunger Free takes place on September 27th. Luncheon guests receive a simple meal and participate in an educational element that illustrates the challenges faced by our hungry neighbors. To purchase your ticket or become a sponsor, click here.
Volunteer as an individual or a group in our food programs.
Projects that groups can assist with include sorting food, packing Pack-A-Sack bags for children or Hearty Homes bags for seniors. To learn more about these opportunities, click here.
